La ilusión de Nina: (No) Carta de presentación

Porque la moda expresa, atrapa, transforma e impulsa, pero si me tengo que quedar con un solo momento de esta profesión es cuando los flashes se apagan, cuando las cámaras dejan de grabar, cuando la conversación deja de seguir un guion. Y es ahí, en ese momento, cuando lo que verdaderamente importa aún prevalece: el nudo en el estómago, los ojos iluminados por la ilusión, conversaciones y risas nerviosas de tú a tú que de primeras no tienen ningún sentido, pero que están cargadas de magia y pequeños detalles que saben marcar la diferencia. Porque no es solo trabajar en una revista, es saber admirar y llevarte una parte de todos los personajes que entrevistas, de todos los artículos que publicas, para dejar a su vez una parte de ti en cada lector.

Hace apenas un año, cuando trabajar y dedicarme a este mundo aún era un mero sueño, una aspiración, la serie The Bold Type apareció en mi pantalla para desvelarme con palabras lo que este mundo significa para mí y yo aún no sabía expresar:

<<Para aquellos que dicen que aun somos una revista de moda y belleza yo digo: “Sí, sí lo somos.” Pero para aquellos que dicen que solo somos una revista de moda y belleza yo digo: “Aquí está el próximo rímel para que tengas los ojos más grandes para ver el mundo.” “Estos son unos maravillosos vaqueros, ahora escala con ellos una montaña.” Hace unos años leí una solicitud de una joven becaria y sus palabras siguen conmigo. Cuando le dijeron que por qué quería trabajar en Scarlet ella dijo: “Porque cuando lo necesité Scarlet fue como si me diera consejos, la hermana mayor que siempre quise tener.” No importa cuantos años pasen, no importa cómo cambia el mundo, […] siempre estaremos allí para la gente que lo necesite. Esta revista se propuso redefinir las reglas y ahora esa responsabilidad recae sobre cada uno de vosotros y quiero estar segura de que entendéis lo que espero de vuestro trabajo. Espero que tengáis aventuras, espero que os enamoréis, que os rompan el corazón. Que os acostéis con las personas equivocadas, que os acostéis con las personas indicadas. Que cometáis errores y que los emendéis. Que arriesguéis con pasión y cautivéis. Y espero, que desatéis las furias del infierno contra aquellos que intenten reprimiros, porque no solo trabajáis para Scarlet, sois Scarlet. >>

Tras haber trabajado en una de las principales cabeceras de moda reconfirmo todo lo anterior. Este año he cumplido más metas y objetivos que nunca, pero lo más importante: quiero seguir aprendiendo, creciendo y compartiendo, porque… ¿En qué momento dices ya está, hasta aquí hemos llegado cuando se trata de tu sueño?

Because fashion expresses, catches, transforms and inspires, but if I have to stay with a single moment of this profession is when the flashes go off, when the cameras stop recording, when the conversation stops following a script. And it's there, at that moment, when what really matters still prevails: the knot in the stomach, the eyes illuminated by the illusion, conversations and nervous laughter from face to face that at first don't make any sense, but that are full of magic and small details that know how to make a difference. Because it's not just working in a magazine, it's knowing how to admire and take a part of all the characters you interview, of all the articles you publish, to leave a part of you in each reader.

Just a year ago, when working and dedicating myself to this world was still a mere dream, an aspiration, The Bold Type series appeared on my screen to reveal to me in words what this world means to me and I didn't yet know how to express:

But to those who say we're just a fashion and beauty magazine I say, "Here's the next mascara to give you the biggest eyes to see the world." "These are wonderful jeans, now climb a mountain in them." A few years ago I read an application from a young and her words still stay with me. When told why she wanted to work at Scarlet she said, "Because when I needed it Scarlet was like giving me advice, the big sister I always wanted to have." No matter how many years go by, no matter how the world changes, [...] we will always be there for people in need. This magazine set out to redefine the rules and now that responsibility falls on each of you and I want to be sure you understand what I expect from your work. I expect you to have adventures, I expect you to fall in love, to have your hearts broken. That you sleep with the wrong people, that you sleep with the right people. That you make mistakes and that you make up for them. May you risk with passion and captivate. And I hope, that you unleash the furies of hell against those who try to hold you back, because you don't just work for Scarlet, you are Scarlet. >>

After having worked in one of the main fashion magazines, I reconfirm all of the above. This year I have accomplished more goals and objectives than ever, but most importantly: I want to keep learning, growing and sharing, because... At what point do you say this is it, this is it when it comes to your dream?
